The 3-year fellowship training program in Pediatric Hematology / Oncology at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is designed to train physicians and physician-scientists in preparation for successful careers in academic Pediatric Hematology / Oncology. The fellowship program is an active participant of the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Perspective applicants are strongly encouraged to register with NRMP prior to initiating their application process for fellowship training. As an ACGME-accredited training program, we offer 2 fellowship trainee positions per year. We do not currently participate in ERAS.
During the first year of a 3-year program, fellows receive intensive training in inpatient, outpatient and consultation settings. Under close supervision of excellent clinical faculty with significant clinical expertise, fellows are responsible for the diagnosis and care of children and adolescents with a wide variety of clinical problems in hematology, coagulation disorders, oncology, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Building on a strong clinical skills and background, fellows then enter training during the second and third years in intensive thesis-driven research projects. Seminars, didactic lecture series, case-based teaching and presentation, formal and informal mentoring sessions (sample curriculum) are all part of the rigorous training program designed to cultivate fully competent clinicians and tomorrow’s leaders in basic, translational, and clinical research as relates to the field of pediatric hematology / oncology.
