Margaret Hewitt
Margaret Hewitt, an African-American architect, was recently recruited to oversee all aspects of the University Hospitals’ $700 million construction project, placing a special emphasis on inclusion.
“This is an exciting time in Northeast Ohio when you consider all the development taking place by UH and others. In 10 years, the area will be unrecognizable,” said Hewitt, UH’s new vice president of construction. “We are moving from an attitude of ‘business as usual’ to an attitude of ‘we are a diverse community. We are an economically inclusive community.’”
Hewitt is no stranger to Northeast Ohio. She comes to UH from Cedarwood Development in Akron, where she was director of development. During a 15-year career in project analysis and management, Hewitt has managed more than 1,400 construction and renovation projects at 600 facilities. Additionally, she has developed and managed budgets exceeding $3.5 billion.
