Non-Invasive Vascular Diagnostic Programs

Our accredited, non-invasive vascular diagnostic programs provide you with a high-level of comfort and complete confidence in your assessment.

In February, 2007, we received a non-invasive lab accreditation from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL), an organization which recognizes high-quality noninvasive vascular diagnostic testing through a peer review process.

Our non-invasive vascular diagnostic programs utilize advanced technologies, including Doppler and Ultrasound, to accurately assess blood flow throughout your body. Unlike x-rays, these tests do not involve ionizing radiation. They do not require anesthesia, and are considered to be risk-free.

Procedures include:

  • Venous duplex upper and lower extremities: an ultrasound exam that uses sound waves to create images of the veins in the upper and lower extremities
  • Upper and lower extremities vein mapping: an ultrasound probe is run along the upper and lower extremities to measure veins to be used to bypass procedures.
  • Peripheral arterial segmental physiologic evaluation (aka PVR - Pulse Volume Recording): a test used to determine how much blood flow is reaching the feet. Blood pressure cuffs are placed on the legs and arms and inflated at different intervals to obtain waveforms and pressures that are present in the artery.
  • Evaluation for thoracic outlet compression syndrome: tests to confirm the diagnosis of thoracic outlet syndrome: a condition characterized by pain in the neck and shoulder, numbness / tingling of the fingers, and weakening of the grip.
  • Carotid duplex scan (extracranials): tests to confirm the diagnosis of atherosclerosis or vascular malformations in the head and neck.
  • Duplex scan of upper / lower arteries: an arterial ultrasound scan that uses sound waves to check for narrowing of the arteries in the upper and lower extremities.
  • Duplex scan of aorta, inferior vena cava: test to check blood flow in the aorta and inferior vena cava.
  • Renal artery duplex: test which uses ultrasound to diagnose diseases of the renal arteries.

Additional diagnostic procedures:

  • Electroencephalogram (EEG): a test used to detect problems in the electrical activity of the brain.
  • Pulmonary function tests (PFT): measure how well the lungs take in and exhale air; and how efficiently they transfer oxygen into the blood.
  • Respiratory diagnostic testing: arterial blood gas (ABG) measures the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the arterial blood and shows how well the lungs are functioning. Pulse oximetry (“pulse ox”) measures the oxygen level in the blood without the need to draw blood.
