For more than 50 years, Mrs. Ruhlman has been giving her time and resources to University Hospitals. In her gentle, caring way, Mrs. Ruhlman insists she gets back much more than she gives.
“I love this hospital,” she said. “My children were born here; my grandson was treated here when he was an 18-year-old with cancer; my parents and late husband were cared for here. And if it were not for doctors like Roland Moskowitz, and the orthopaedic team of Victor Goldberg, Randall Marcus and Matthew Kraay, I would not be walking today.”
Mrs. Ruhlman was diagnosed with arthritis 40 years ago and has undergone two hip replacements and five revisions to keep her active. Her brisk walk and bright smile reflect the same energy she exhibited when she became a high school volunteer at MacDonald Women’s Hospital. As a young married woman, she volunteered every Tuesday at the reception desk. She continued to volunteer after her children were born. Recently, Mrs. Ruhlman took a leadership position on the Development Committee of the UH Board of Directors. In addition, she serves as Chair of the MacDonald Women’s Health Leadership Council.
