What is Vascular Disease?
Vascular disease is the general term for a variety of problems affecting the blood flow throughout the body’s blood vessels. It is the third leading cause of death and the number one cause of disability in older people in this country.

Prime Targets for Vascular Disease
Vascular disease primarily affects people over 60, particularly men. The entire vascular system — but mainly the arteries — is vulnerable to the same build-up of atherosclerotic plaque that causes coronary artery disease and heart attacks. Risk factors for developing vascular disease include

  • Hypertension
  • High blood cholesterol
  • Smoking
  • Diabetes
  • Family history of vascular disease
