- Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant: Led by James Fang, MD, FACC, UH has begun a renaissance of its heart failure, transplant and mechanical assist programs. Adnan Cobanoglu, MD, directs the cardiac surgery division; and 3 board-certified heart transplant surgeons have re-launched University Hospitals Case Medical Center’s heart transplant program.
- Electrophysiology: Judith Mackall, MD leads our expansion to encompass new clinics in Westlake, Chardon and Twinsburg; and by opening additional rooms at University Hospitals Case Medical Center for further exploration of the latest technology in mapping and ablation devices, including the Stereotaxis magnetic guidance system.
- Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine: Our stem cell and regenerative medicine program is guided by Stan Gerson, MD, of the Ireland Cancer Center; and co-directed by Vince Pompili, MD, and Mary Laughlin, MD, of the Heart & Vascular Institute. We have united international leaders in stem cell biology, therapeutics, and clinical medicine to develop novel cell-based therapeutics. We are pioneering an exciting research area that we believe will make rapid inroads into patient care for cancer, heart disease and other disorders.
- Cardiovascular Imaging: The Cardiovascular Imaging Center, directed by Robert Gilkeson, MD and Eric Larose, MD, provides unsurpassed expertise in diagnostic imaging including MRI, CT angiography and nuclear medicine. Our accredited Non-Invasive Cardiology Adult Echocardiography Laboratory—one of the largest in Northeast Ohio—is led by nationally- renowned cardiologist, Brian Hoit, MD. Advances in the nationally-renowned Case Center for Imaging Research, under the directorship of Jeff Duerk, PhD, will accelerate the latest imaging technologies into the clinical area and improve patient care.
- Valve Heart: Led by Alan Markowitz, MD, Chief Surgical Officer, and James Fang, MD, FACC, Chief Medical Officer, Heart & Vascular Institute, the Valve Center focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with complex valvular heart disease. We possess a unique expertise in ground-breaking valve repair and re-operative procedures; and leverage interdisciplinary pre-operative evaluation, peri-operative collaboration, and team-based post-operative management to optimize outcomes in mitral, aortic, and tricuspid disease.
