There are more than 100 Primary Immune Deficiency Diseases (PIDD), many of which require clinical care by a physician or other healthcare professional.
These diseases occur when one or more essential parts of the immune system do not work correctly.
People with PIDD cannot get rid of germs or protect themselves from germs as well as they should, causing frequent infections and other problems that are hard to cure.
Infections may appear to be common illnesses such as sinus and ear infections, pneumonia, fever, common colds and bronchitis.
Some types of Immune Deficiencies are:
- Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID)
- Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID)
- DiGeorge Syndrome
- X-linked Agammaglobulinemia (Brutons Disease)
- Selective IgA Deficiency
- Chronic Granulomatous Disease
- IgG Subclass Deficiency
