Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a radiation-free, painless procedure that provides real-time cross-section images of bone, soft tissue and fluid that can be viewed while the technologist is conducting the test. The technique uses high-frequency sound waves and also the resulting “echoes,” much like the SONAR used on submarines. These waves are computer digitized, then displayed on a monitor, showing internal terrain, including organs, bone, blood vessels and fluid. UH-Geneva Medical Center Ultrasound Division uses Siemens Accuson equipment.
