UH Geneva Medical Center became an Accredited Chest Pain Center May 28, 2009. Awarded by the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC), this accreditation recognizes the quality patient care provided to patients experiencing a cardiac event.

The process for becoming an accredited chest pain center was a collaborative effort involving all hospital departments and staff. The SCPC evaluates the hospital in several areas of patient care, focusing on the event of a myocardial infarction (MI), or heart attack.

UH Geneva Medical Center demonstrates a strong allegiance with emergency medical services, and there is always prior notification that a patient having an MI is en route to the Emergency Department (ED). ED personnel anticipate the arrival and notify the cardiac catheterization lab. This allows for the ED staff to expedite patient care to preserve cardiac muscle.

The SCPC reviews the hospital’s processes, protocols, patient outcomes, education plan and community services. The SCPC also assists in applying innovations to enhance patient care.

The staff members at the hospital are committed to caring for patients and striving to get patients where they need to be as fast as possible. Time is a crucial factor in saving patients lives.
