Electronic Medical Record Arrives at UH Geneva Medical Center
On June 30, 2009, University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center adopted an electronic medical record (EMR) system. An EMR is a computerized, real time, medical chart. Leaders in innovationThe EMR is here at UH Geneva Medical Center it’s one more way we’re staying on the leading edge of medicine to provide you with the highest quality patient care experience.
UH is one of the largest health systems to develop an EMR, and it will be interoperable across all UH hospitals and outpatient centers by Dec. 2010. To date, only about eight percent of U.S. hospitals have comprehensive EMR systems in place, according to industry studies.Same great care, more efficiencyAs a patient, you may not notice much difference in the level of care that you receive. That’s because the EMR enhances the coordination of care behind the scenes with physicians, nurses and allied health professionals.
Before the EMR, medical professionals would have to retrieve your paper chart from a secured file room, thumb through pages of documents and would often ask you the same health information at every visit. Now, physicians and other providers now can access your health information in a centralized electronic data repository system and document new information during your stay or visit.Better access to comprehensive, quality careSay you visit UH Geneva Medical Center and later go to another hospital in the University Hospitals health system. Now your physician can call up your medical history, such as allergies and previous surgeries that were entered in. In addition, all imaging and lab test results you have performed at a UH health center will be sent directly to your physician to give him a complete picture of your health.Built with safety and privacy in mindThe EMR is designed with an alert system to notify your physician about potential issues or problems, and the same privacy rules that apply to your paper chart are applicable to your electronic record. |
