University Hospitals created the Diversity Council to ensure that diversity and inclusion are an integral part of our culture. The Council must include senior leadership from physicians, nurses, administrators, advisors and those serving in key functional areas. The Council meets monthly and oversees the following goals:

- Provide excellent service to our diverse patient base.
- Promote excellent working relationships among employees and an environment of care that respects diversity.
- Ensure that our recruitment and hiring practices create a more diverse work force at all levels.
- Ensure that our suppliers in arenas from construction to vendors and contracts include more Minority Business Enterprises and Female Business Enterprises from Northeast Ohio.
- Provide ongoing employee training and development programs that create opportunities to build skills and to apply them in order to mutually benefit the employees and patients we serve.
- Seek to make diversity a part of everyone’s responsibility, communicating and reinforcing the individual responsibility that every employee has for achieving our goals regarding diversity.
- Develop partnerships with ethnic minority and other diverse communities to foster mutual support and understanding and to enhance community service and relations.
- Establish ourselves as a leading organization where diversity is championed by all employees, continually demonstrating their individual and collective commitment to diversity in our workplace.
