Child Passenger Safety
Child Passenger Safety Week

Why is child passenger safety a cause for celebration?  Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children over the age of 1 and properly used child restraints—car seats for infants and toddlers, booster seats for young children who have outgrown car seats but are too small for seat belts, and seat belts for older children and teens—are the best means of reducing the risk of death or injury in a crash.  Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital celebrates the many lives that have been saved through the use of child restraints and offers information to help parents keep their children safe in motor vehicles.

So what can you do to learn about child passenger safety with your family?  The Rainbow Injury Prevention Center, together with Greater Cleveland Safe Kids, offers Car Seat Fit Stop locations  throughout the region where parents can come to get assistance with car seat selection and installation.  If you and your child want to learn more about staying safe in and around cars, visit Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital’s new interactive transportation safety exhibit at The Cleveland Children’s’ Museum, which was made possible through a grant from Kohl’s Cares for Kids.

The Rainbow Injury Prevention Center is dedicated to protecting child passengers throughout Northeast Ohio by helping parents and caregivers make important decisions about how best to restrain their child passengers.  If you’re not sure what the best restraint method is for your child, call us at 216-844-2277.
