University Hospitals Offers Innovative Care for Chronic Pain PatientsThe Division of
Pain Medicine (Anesthesiology) at University Hospitals has expanded to help better manage patients with chronic pain and offer them unparalleled advanced care.
Under the direction of the new division chief
Salim Hayek, MD, PhD, the Division has recently grown from two to five full-time physicians. “We hope that our new, strengthened team can help expeditiously care for patients through a comprehensive, interventional program that uses state-of-the-art techniques in pain management,” Dr. Hayek says.
Members of the team include Drs.
Patrick McIntyre,
Joshua Goldner, Salim Hayek,
Donald Woods and
Al-Amin Khalil (pictured left to right). With this increased capacity, he says, many patients can now be seen within 24 hours, if not on a same-day basis.
The Division’s physicians are experts at managing chronic painful conditions including: chronic low back or neck pain, spinal stenosis/disc disease, radicular symptoms/radiculopathy, cancer-related pain, neuropathic painful entities (such as diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia, intercostal neuralgia, RSD), headache and facial pain, and chronic visceral pain (abdominal/pelvic).
The team also can help direct patients with fibromyalgia and opioid dependence problems to the appropriate specialists. The Division currently sees patients at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, University Suburban Health Center (Green Road), Westlake Health Center, Mentor Health Center and Chagrin Highlands Health Center locations.
