This Center assists primary care physicians in diagnosing, assessing, and managing hyperlipidemia in children. Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for future cardiac disease, and appropriate modification provides effective preventive care.

Hyperlipidemia is evaluated utilizing family history, dietary history, and lipid profiling. Therapeutic recommendations are carefully individualized and are based on a team approach with the pediatric cardiologist, nutritionist, and the primary physician. Diet and lifestyle modifications as well as pharmacologic therapy are used.
