Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, local EMS and fire department staff, led by Dr. Michael Anderson, Rainbow PICU physician and nationally-renowned expert on disaster preparedness for children and families.
What: The event will be a staged “mock” explosion, in which child actors will play the part of disaster victims. The audience will see how medical staff, EMS and the fire department work together in the field to resuscitate and treat children, which is very different than treating adults. This event will demonstrate trauma treatments/procedures and what makes a Level I trauma center so important in these types of situations. The process will be narrated and explained to an audience of community leaders, including members of the Young Presidents’ Organization, and questions and answers will follow. Dr. Anderson and/or any of the participants will be available for interviews following or prior to the presentation.
