UH to Break Ground for New Ahuja Medical Center

Major component in UH’s Expansion Plans for Easily Accessible, Patient-centered Facilities
CLEVELAND (September 28, 2007) -- With the turn of a ceremonial shovel, University Hospitals officials, with the company of several public officials including Senators Sherrod Brown and George Voinovich and Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, will begin the transformation of a 53-acre field in Beachwood into a model showcase for 21st Century health care. UH will break ground on Sept. 28 at 4:30 p.m. for The Ahuja Medical Center, a new 600-bed hospital, with the first phase expected to be completed in 2010.

The award is being presented on the evening of the same day that UH is breaking ground for the Ahuja Medical Center, a new 600-bed hospital located in Beachwood, Ohio, named in recognition of the $30 million gift the Ahuja family committed to Vision 2010, UH’s $1.2 billion strategic plan. The Samuel Mather Award, named for one of UH’s earliest supporters, celebrates the exceptional generosity and civic vision of benefactors who have had a lasting and profound impact on University Hospitals.

Robert J. Ronis, MD, MPH named chairman of Department of Psychiatry at University Hospitals, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine

CLEVELAND - Robert J. Ronis, MD, MPH has been named chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at University Hospitals (UH) and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Ronis served as the interim chairman for two years prior to accepting his new appointment within the department and the medical school.

“Throughout his tenure, Dr. Ronis has more than demonstrated his dedication to both the Department of Psychiatry at University Hospitals, as well as the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. In addition, his commitment to community outreach in the field of psychiatry is commendable,” said Fred C. Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Kohl’s Work Together to Keep Kids Safe from Injuries

CLEVELAND – Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children over the age of 1. While riding restrained is the most effective means of preventing injury in a crash, many Ohio children are at risk because their parents choose inappropriate restraint methods, like moving children directly from car seats to seat belts. Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is dedicated to helping parents keep kids safe in and around cars and Kohl’s has teamed up with Rainbow to fund an innovative program to do just that—Kohl’s Safe Rides for All Kids. On Tuesday, September 18, at Sammy’s in Legacy Village, Kohl’s will reaffirm its commitment to the safety of Greater Cleveland’s children through the presentation of a check in the amount of $153,220.52 to support the second year of its partnership with Rainbow.

CLEVELAND, Sept. 18, 2007 – The National Institutes of Health today announced that it has awarded $64 million to Case Western Reserve University, in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and MetroHealth Medical Center, to become part of a national consortium designed to transform how clinical and translational research is conducted, ultimately enabling researchers to provide new treatments more efficiently and quickly to patients.

Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital to Host Health Forum with Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones

CLEVELAND – University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is hosting a health forum with Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones on Saturday, September 15, 2007 from noon until 2:00 p.m. to discuss with parents and children “the trinity issues” of obesity, diabetes and nutrition. The program will feature Rainbow’s Healthy Kids Healthy Weight program in an interactive exercise session with the Congresswoman and participating children and families.

“We are so pleased to be teaming up with Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones to help educate children and families about the obesity epidemic that is adversely impacting our youth,” said Fred C. Medina General Hospital and University Hospitals Agree to Pursue Affiliation

CLEVELAND – University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and WMVX 106.5 FM are teaming up this week to hold the fifth annual Mix 106.5 Brian & Joe Rainbow Radiothon. The Radiothon, presented this year by Foresters and Giant Eagle, will run from Wednesday, September 12th through Friday, September 14th. Live broadcasting will occur from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

During the course of the three days, many local patients and families will be sharing their heartfelt stories of experiences at Rainbow with the Cleveland community, local celebrities will be stopping by, and the hospital will be buzzing with activities as the radio station broadcasts live on-site.

CLEVELANDUniversity Hospitals (UH) announced today that its subsidiary, University Hospitals CompCare, has been awarded Full Case Management Accreditation from URAC, a Washington, DC-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry. URAC’s Case Management Accreditation standards require companies to establish a process to assess, plan and implement case management interventions.

UH Compcare is a state-certified workers’ compensation managed care organization (MCO) that provides medical management and cost containment services to employers and their injured employees and assists in facilitating a safe and healthy return to work. Additionally, UH CompCare provides medical case management for all University Hospital injured employees.
