Functional Capacity Evaluation
University Hospitals Preforms Pre-Employment and Standard Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs)
Specialists at University Hospitals Center for Rehabilitation Services provide pre-employment and standard functional capacity evaluations (FCEs). An FCE is a comprehensive assessment used to evaluate a person’s ability to perform work-related tasks. Data is collected and analyzed using the Biodex system, a neuromuscular testing system, and an objective report is sent to the physician.
These evaluations are performed through a partnership with Industrial Physical Capability Services (IPCS). The evaluation lasts just 45 minutes and all results are interpreted by Industrial Physical Capability Services.
Assessing Functional Abilities through Nationally Certified Assessments
At University Hospitals, we offer nationally certified assessments to determine disability status or determine if a patient can return to a normal job with specific tasks. This functional assessment, occupational therapist registered (OTR)-certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, is used for standard functional capacity evaluations. This testing process is very comprehensive and can last up to four hours.
