The Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) suite is located in the Mather Outpatient Surgery Center conveniently located on the campus of the UH Cleveland Medical Center. ECT treatment is available for both in-patients and out-patients.

Currently, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) are temporarily unavailable. However, these services are expected to resume soon. Meanwhile, our clinic continues to provide intravenous ketamine and nasal esketamine treatments. These options remain accessible for those seeking treatment.

The nursing staff to patient ratio is one staff member for two patients. All nurses are ACLS credentialed. We are fortunate to have a very knowledgeable and specialized staff with over 50 years of ECT treatment experience. Daily staffing for the ECT suite consists of:

1 psychiatrist
1 anesthesiologist
1 nursing care coordinator
2-5 clinical nurses, depending on the number of patients
Administrative support

What is Electroconvulsive Therapy?

ECT is among the safest and most effective treatments for depression. It is used to treat patients who fail to respond to medications, are unable to tolerate the side effects of medication, or need a quick improvement in depressive symptoms. ECT has also been used to treat manic symptoms as well as psychotic episodes associated with schizophrenia. ECT is performed while the patient is under general anesthesia. During the ECT procedure, a brief electrical stimulus is delivered through electrodes applied to the scalp. Patients usually undergo a series of ECT treatments over the course of several weeks. Ketamine Infusion Clinic

The Ketamine Infusion Clinic for Depression is located within the ECT suite at the Mather Outpatient Surgery Center which is conveniently located on the campus of the UH Cleveland Medical Center. Electroconvulsive Therapy Suite The Clinic offers ketamine infusion for depressed patients who fail antidepressants and other treatments.

Repetitive Transcranial Magnectic Stimulation (rTMS) Clinic for Depression

The rTMS Clinic for Depression offers treatment for patients with major depressive disorder who fail one or more antidepressant treatments. The Clinic is located on the 12th floor of the W. O. Walker Building, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio.
