Pharmacy Practice Experiences and Internships

Offering Onsite, Practical Experience for Pharmacy Students

University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center provides pharmacy students with the opportunity to gain professional pharmacy experience in a hospital setting. We offer introductory and advanced practice experiences as well as internships for pharmacy students.

Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience

UH Department of Pharmacy Services provides introductory pharmacy practice experiences (IPPE) that introduce the students to the practice of pharmacy, the healthcare system, and the role the pharmacist plays within the healthcare system. Students gain pharmacy experience in the institutional pharmacy practice with the clinical pharmacists, residents and other students.

This experience provides practical, supervised professional experiences that enable students to develop an understanding of various areas of the healthcare system and develop introductory problem-solving skills.

Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience

Our pharmacy team also provides Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotations to pharmacy students from:

  • Northeast Ohio Medical University
  • Ohio Northern University
  • The Ohio State University
  • University of Toledo
  • The University of Findlay
  • University of Pittsburgh

APPE rotation experiences at UH Cleveland Medical Center provide students with the necessary clinical experiences to prepare them for a career in pharmacy and/or to enter a residency training program after graduation. Pharmacy Internships

UH Cleveland Medical Center offers a pharmacy internship program to students who are licensed as pharmacy interns and are actively enrolled at a school of pharmacy. This program provides the student with hands-on experience in the practice of pharmacy. Pharmacy interns are actively involved in both distributive and non-distributive functions, including medication processing and distribution, preparation of sterile products, and in assisting the clinical pharmacists with medication/patient care-related issues.
