2014 Parkinson’s Boot CampTM

Nearly 1,000 people attended the 2014 Parkinson’s Boot Camp September 6, at the Global Center for Health Innovation in Downtown Cleveland.

People with Parkinson’s and their caregivers were treated to a free day-long, interactive event where they learned exercise techniques, mind and body wellness practices and invigorating skills to help them manage their Parkinson’s.

Topics covered included:

  • Research on the benefits of exercise;
  • Medical and surgical therapies;
  • Benefits of physical therapy;
  • Parkinson’s research; and
  • A special caregiver workshop

2014 Parkinson Disease Champion Award Winner Marilyn Brandt

The highlight of the morning occurred when Benjamin Walter, MD, Director of the University Hospitals Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center and the organizer of the Boot Camp, presented the 2014 Parkinson Disease Champion Award to Cleveland Heights resident Marilyn Brandt, who leads a Parkinson Educational Program at the city’s rec center.

The afternoon featured nationally acclaimed speakers such as Michael Okun, MD, Medical Director of the National Parkinson’s Foundation; John Baumann, JD, BBA, author of “Decide Success: You Ain’t Dead Yet”; and Christa Lassa-Vogel, from the Davis Phinney Foundation.
