Inoperable Brain Tumor: New NeuroBlate® Technology Gives New Hope For Patients

There is new hope for patients with inoperable brain tumors or lesions previously diagnosed as untreatable.

The Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology team researched and implemented NeuroBlate® (laser interstitial thermal therapy) technology, which uses MRI-guided lasers to destroy tumors without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue.

The NeuroBlate System:

• Is a revolutionary and minimally invasive technology that gives a pain-free alternative to traditional open surgery or radiosurgery.
• Was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2009.
• Is especially effective in treating glioblastoma – one of the most aggressive and difficult-to-treat brain cancers – and other inoperable brain tumors for patients who otherwise are considered "high risk" for surgery.
• Is offered at UH Cleveland Medical Center, one of only a small number of hospitals in the United States using this technology.
