Evaluation and Grievance Procedures

Evaluation of the fellow will be completed by the Fellowship Director every six months, with input from the core faculty and affiliated faculty on an ongoing basis (required after a completed rotation). The fellow will also be asked to evaluate the program annually. If the fellow is not performing at the expected level of competence, several steps will be taken. First, the fellow’s supervisors will discuss the need for remediation with the fellow and provide educational materials and additional modeling and supervision to improve the skill area(s). If there continues to be need for remediation, the area/areas of concern will be brought to the attention of the Fellowship Director to develop further opportunities for training or coursework within or outside the department. A stepped approach is used in the resolution of disputes and grievances. Fellows are encouraged to resolve problems directly with the individual(s) involved if at all possible but may seek the advice and guidance of the Fellowship Director in resolving problems when needed. If this is not successful, the fellow may ask the Fellowship Director to intervene.

In such a case, the Fellowship Director will collect all relevant information, consult as needed with other faculty and staff, and bring the relevant individuals together to present a plan for problem resolution. The Fellowship Director will then follow up with the fellow and other relevant parties to confirm that a successful resolution of the problem has been achieved. If the grievance is such that the fellow believes that the complaint cannot be brought to the Fellowship Director or if further action is felt necessary, the fellow may bring the problem to the Director of Neuropsychology, the Director of the Brain Health & Memory Center or the Neurology Department Chair.
