Business Development Manager

The Business Development Manager will have a central role in developing and managing internal and external opportunities to ensure success of the Harrington Discovery Institute portfolio of drug development programs. The Business Development Manager will report to the VP, Strategic Alliances and Business Development, and will assist in identifying and developing partnerships, finding new project financing vehicles, managing existing program relationships and driving business development for the Institute.

Harrington Discovery Institute has a large portfolio of innovative therapeutics development programs that include oncology, cardiovascular, metabolic, inflammation and others. Harrington Discovery Institute also works closely with BioMotiv, a for profit accelerator to fund early stage startup companies. The Institute has several partners and continues to seek new opportunities to fulfill its mission. Realization of Harrington Discovery Institute’s mission to advance medicine and society by enabling inventive scientists to turn their discoveries into medicines that improve human health is predicated on the successful development of technologies incubated within the Harrington scholar programs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist management of portfolio of drug development programs and startup companies
  • Assist management of existing strategic relationships, including partners and CROs
  • Follow-up developing partnerships and identify new business and partner opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualified candidates should have a Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Business or some combination thereof backed by industry related experience.

Experience & Knowledge:

Qualified candidates will have 5-7 years of experience in business development and/or partnership management in Biotech or Pharmaceutical Industry.

  • Identify, generate leads and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified new business opportunities
  • Exceptional relationship/partnership management and interpersonal skills
  • Manage business and legal documentation
  • Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and computer skills
  • Strong skills conducting due diligence and market research
  • Attention to detail, handle diverse tasks to advance multiple parallel priorities
  • Adaptive work style that ensures effective collaboration with a lean and nimble team
  • Acute responsiveness to changing priorities and new opportunities

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project)

Preferred Skills:

  • SmartSimple (CRM database)
  • Cortellis (market research tool) or similar
  • (cloud-based file sharing)
