Revisional Surgery

University Hospitals Offers Leading-Edge Revisional Surgery

When a previous weight loss surgery needs repair or a patient experiences problems resulting from a previous surgery, a revisional procedure may be necessary. At University Hospitals Digestive Health Institute, these revisional procedures can be performed both laparoscopically and endoscopically. The Nutritional Health & Bariatric Surgery Center is one of just a few programs in the region that has the expertise to offer revisional surgery of prior weight loss operations.

Revisional surgery may be considered for several reasons:

  • Patients have had weight loss surgery and have regained the weight
  • An initial surgery resulted in complications or problems such as acid reflux, ulcers or abdominal discomfort
  • There was a malfunction of the original surgery

Because revisional surgery can be complex, patients are evaluated on an individual basis by our experienced bariatric surgeons. If a patient qualifies for revisional surgery, the UH team will provide effective and safe solutions with consistent long-term follow up based on each patient’s situation.
