Dermatology Oncology and Micrographic Surgery Fellowship

University Hospitals offers a one-year Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship. The fellowship focuses on Mohs micrographic surgery, advanced cutaneous reconstructive surgery, and dermatologic oncology.

Our goal is to prepare fellows to manage the most complex tumors, to perform complex reconstructive surgery, and to organize multidisciplinary care, when necessary. Graduates will be well equipped to begin a career in academic medicine if they so choose.

Additional Information:

The fellow gains expertise in the following areas:

  • Mohs micrographic surgery, including exposure to a high volume of high-risk tumors and complex Mohs cases (including Mohs for melanoma, merkel cell carcinoma, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, and other rate skin cancers), some of which are performed in the operating room.
  • Cutaneous reconstructive surgery, including the repair of defects after surgical removal of cutaneous neoplasms and scar revision. The fellow gains requisite knowledge and expertise in cutaneous anatomy, wound healing, and cutaneous repair techniques. Fellows will participate in a high volume of cases to gain experience in complex reconstructions.
  • Dermatologic Oncology, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, merkel cell carcinoma, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, sebaceous carcinoma, atypical fibroxanthoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, microcystic adnexal carcinoma, and other rare cutaneous malignancies.
  • Cutaneous cosmetic surgery, including appropriate use of neurotoxins, fillers, multiple laser modalities, sclerotherapy, and endovenous ablation.

Accreditation

This Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
