Art and Music Therapy
Art and Music Therapy Help Patients through the Power of the Creative Arts
The art therapy and music therapy programs at University Hospitals both go back more than 25 years. The programs were established in order to help patients heal through the creative arts. Through the power of music and the visual arts, patients can experience a wide range of benefits, including pain relief, a decrease in anxiety and depression, the development of coping skills, and an outlet for emotional expression.
After having been established individually, the two programs merged and are now known as the Department of Art & Music Therapy. The art and music therapy program currently has five full-time music therapists, one part-time music therapist, and two music therapy interns. In addition, two full-time art therapists, an art therapy assistant, and an art therapy intern create an intriguing, creative therapy team.
