Perianesthesia Testing

University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center Team Plans and Schedules Important Testing Prior to Surgery

The Urologic Oncology Center team may request that patients attend perianesthesia testing several days or weeks prior to the scheduled surgery.

The UH Seidman Cancer Center visit is scheduled so that the center's medical team can review all the patient's medical conditions, medications and laboratory results, ensuring that the individual is ready to receive anesthesia and undergo surgery.

As part of this evaluation, the staff will test the patient's blood, administer an EKG and take X-rays as needed. The perianesthesia team may recommend consultations for other medical services prior to surgery, such as a visit to a cardiologist.

The team might also prescribe new medications or advise patients to stop taking current medications.

Patient Care is Our Top Priority

The patient's meeting with our medical team is an extra step that the Urologic Oncology Center takes to protect and ensure the safety of all its patients.
