Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy

University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center Provides Patients with Advanced, Laparoscopic Treatments for Kidney Cancer

UH Seidman Cancer physicians perform kidney-sparing or laparoscopic nephron-sparing surgery where the kidney is removed, leaving a small amount of normal tissue to preserve function of the remaining kidney. Our surgeons are experienced in performing these sometimes technically demanding laparoscopic procedures. Depending on the patient’s health and specific cancer situation, the UH Seidman Cancer Center team can offer laparoscopic partial nephrectomy.

UH Seidman Cancer Center and the Urologic Oncology Center physicians have found that minimally invasive partial removal of the kidney (laparoscopic nephrectomy) has similar results to a complete removal of the kidney (complete nephrectomy) in patients with small tumors, while simultaneously maintaining healthy, functioning kidney tissue. There are many benefits to patients who receive a laparoscopic procedure, including:

  • Less postoperative pain
  • Quicker recovery
  • Reduced hospital stay
  • Faster healing with less scarring because of smaller incisions
