Curriculum & Features

At UH Regional Hospitals:

  • Inpatient Internal Medicine/ICU (UH Richmond Medical Center): 12 weeks
  • General Surgery (UH Bedford and Richmond medical centers): Eight weeks
  • Emergency Medicine (UH Bedford and Richmond medical centers): Four weeks
  • Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (UH Bedford and Richmond medical centers): Built into yearly curriculum

Other UH facilities:

  • Family Medicine: Four weeks
  • Rural Selective: Four weeks
  • Pediatrics: Two-four weeks
  • Electives: 12 weeks

A unique feature of our Traditional Rotating Internship program is training in our UH critical access hospitals. At least one block each year is devoted to a “rural selective” in which interns are exposed to patients and medical/surgical health care environments in rural areas of northeast Ohio.
