Curriculum & Features

At UH Regional Hospitals:

  • Inpatient internal medicine/ICU (UH Richmond Medical Center): 12 weeks
  • General surgery (UH Bedford and Richmond medical centers): Eight weeks
  • Emergency medicine (UH Bedford and Richmond medical centers): Four weeks
  • Neuromusculoskeletal medicine/osteopathic manipulative medicine (UH Bedford and Richmond medical centers): Incorporated into research rotation

At Case Western Reserve University and UH Regional Hospitals:

  • CRSP 401: Introduction to Clinical Research course: Four weeks
    Includes NMM/OMM and various clinical experiences including:
    • Dermatology clinic
    • Wound care
    • Urgent care
    • Emergency medicine
    • Physical medicine and rehabilitation
    • Protected research time

At UH Cleveland Medical Center:

  • Inpatient internal medicine/family medicine: Four weeks
  • Dermatology: Two weeks

At UH Conneaut and Geneva medical centers:

  • Rural selective: Four weeks

At various sites:*

  • Family medicine: Four weeks
  • Dermatology (with Dr. Lloyd): Two weeks
  • Ambulatory pediatrics: Four weeks
  • Rheumatology (including UH Richmond Medical Center): Four weeks
  • Electives: All elective time is designated toward Dermatology areas of concentration
  • Continuity Clinic: All Dermatology Emphasis interns will participate longitudinally in the Dermatology Clinic at UH Richmond Medical Center.
  • 20 days of vacation

A unique feature of our Traditional Rotating Internship program is training in our UH critical access hospitals. At least one block each year is devoted to a “rural selective” in which interns are exposed to patients and medical/surgical health care environments in rural areas of northeast Ohio.
