Administratively, UH Regional Hospitals Department of Medical Education is based at University Hospitals Richmond Medical Center, a campus of UH Regional Hospitals – a full-service, 115-bed acute care medical center with over 400 physicians representing more than 30 specialties. Clinically, the department operates at both the UH Richmond and Bedford medical centers. University Hospitals Bedford Medical Center, a campus of UH Regional Hospitals is a full-service, 110-bed acute care facility located 19 miles south of UH Richmond Medical Center. The UH system-integrated osteopathic and podiatric programs currently accommodate more than 100 learners. On the osteopathic side, we offer three training pathways:

  • AOA Independent
  • AOA/ACGME Parallel
  • AOA/ACGME Dual

The podiatric program, which has been growing steadily for nearly 25 years, is on track to increase to approximately 40 residents over the next few years. This benchmark will make the UH Regional Hospitals Department of Medical Education podiatric program one of the largest in the nation.

As of 2012, both the DO and DPM training programs now incorporate a new rural selective agenda into their requirements. Learners gain exposure and perform rotations at diverse facilities in urban, suburban and rural environments throughout northeast Ohio.
