Genetic Disorders

Children with inheritable disorders frequently require neurosurgical treatment. As a team we work along with the other pediatric specialists and geneticists to provide advanced care in a family-centered environment.

Some genetic disorders are associated with tumors such as

  • Neurofibromatosis,
  • Tuberous sclerosis,
  • Cowden disease, and
  • von Hippel Lindau disease.

Other genetic disorders such as spina bifida, craniosynostosis, epilepsy, and some vascular abnormalities have a known genetic component that is less well-defined than the tumor syndromes.

We work closely with colleagues in genetics, pediatric neurology, neuroradiology, neuropathology, and other pediatric specialties to provide comprehensive assessment and management of the child's disorder.
