Asthma can be a terrifying—even life-threatening—disease if it’s not managed well.
Rainbow’s Asthma Center, in affiliation with the Case University School of Medicine and University Hospitals of Cleveland, each year treats and evaluates more than 1,000 patients with asthma, allergies, and other immune system disorders. And we support our treatment regimens with ongoing research—seven full-time specialists conduct research on airway inflammation, while others study how cholesterol synthesis pathways may be involved in regulating this inflammation.
The center provides inpatient and outpatient services for people throughout Ohio. Faculty members are involved in both clinical and basic scientific research and work in community programs with asthmatic children to better understand and treat the condition.
Asthma is particularly prevalent in African American and Hispanic communities, where we initiate early intervention with children belonging to at-risk groups. Our goal is to come up with the best treatments that make the most sense for this important segment of our population.
