Common Questions
Q: What can we do to prepare our child for surgery?
A: The best thing to do is reassure your child that all is well. Talk calmly about the process with your child. Our Child Life Specialists are on hand to help once you arrive at the hospital.

Q: What can we expect when we come here?
A: In most cases, we start with our own complete history and diagnostic evaluation to pinpoint the problem. We may order tests such as x-rays, CT scans, or ultrasounds. We’ll go over the results with you as soon as possible and help you understand the treatment options.

Q: Will surgery hurt?
A: We are committed to keeping pain and discomfort to the absolute minimum, before, during and after the surgery. We don't believe in making kids be stoic and tough it out. Your child will feel no pain during surgery and will have pain medication afterwards if needed. In some cases we may recommend physical therapy and/or limiting certain activities for a time.

Q: How do we schedule surgery?
A. We have caring and very experienced people in our office who will streamline scheduling and paperwork. Once you’ve been referred to us, they’ll make it easy for you.

Q: How will we be able to afford all this?
A: At Rainbow, no child who needs help is turned away. Medicare pays the major share of the costs incurred by patients. Your insurance carrier may cover some or all of the remainder. If you have questions about finances, call the finance office.
