Research
The conduct of biomedical research and clinical research is a cornerstone of the Division of Pediatric Pharmacology and Critical Care. Likewise, training in basic science and clinical research is a large part of the trainee's experience while in the Division.

A full 8-9 months of each year is dedicated to the pursuit of a research project.

Through the guidance of the program director, the fellowship director, and the research director in the division, mentors are identified for each trainee based upon their individual needs.

The insurance of a meaningful experience is accomplished in a number of ways. First, the fellowship director and the division chief meet with the individual trainee on a regular basis and assess the needs of the individual trainee. Secondly, the full resources of Case Western Reserve University, a leading research university, are made available to the Fellow. Likewise, varied research topics are covered in both the basic statistics course offered by the Department of Pediatrics as well as interaction in the divisional didactic conferences. The departmental statistics course is offered in the fall of each year and first year fellows are required to take this course.

The Case Western University School of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital have large and ample basic science research space. Most trainees choose to base their laboratory investigations in laboratories outside the Division of Pharmacology and Critical Care.

Case Western Reserve University
Case Western Reserve University and the Department of Pediatrics at Rainbow both rank very highly in NIH funding.
