Rainbow Babies & Children’s Makes Top 10 List – Again
Child Magazine Ranks Top 10 Children’s Hospitals
CLEVELAND (January 4, 2007) -- Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital at University Hospitals Case Medical Center has once again ranked among the top ten children’s hospitals in the country, according to Child magazine editors and a Medical Advisory Board consisting of leading pediatric experts.
Child conducted a detailed, data-driven survey, consisting of 247 questions examining vital medical information including survival rates, the number of complex procedures and intricate surgeries performed, volume of research studies, efforts to reduce medical errors, and the quality and training of the doctors and nurses – as well as child-friendliness, support for families and community involvement. The survey was sent to 116 full members of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions. Seventy-six hospitals completed the survey.
"More hospitals competed for the top 10 slots than in Child's past three rankings. And the survey itself was more rigorous than ever with the addition of a section on pulmonary care and the expansion of sections on patient safety and community involvement," said Karen Cicero, health & nutrition director, Child magazine.
“It is truly significant to be consistently ranked in the top ten for this in-depth survey,” said Fred C. Rothstein, MD, President and CEO, University Hospitals Case Medical Center. “This year, the questions were even more in-depth and detailed, and it is a true testament to the hard work of the physicians and nursing staff that Rainbow, again, shines among the best in the country.”
Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital ranks eighth in the 2007 overall survey results.
Child magazine has been conducting the children’s hospital survey every other year since 2001. Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital has ranked in the top of the Child magazine survey since 2003.
In addition to ranking the best overall children’s hospitals, Child identified the leading hospitals in five key pediatric specialties: neonatal care, cancer care, emergency care, cardiac care, orthopedic care and pulmonary care.
Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital ranks third in neonatal care.
“Rainbow has long been known for its expertise in neonatology,” adds Rothstein. “And we look forward to further enhancing our outstanding service in this area in 2007 as we break ground on a new state of the art NICU, featuring even more advanced technologies and additional comforts to patients and families.”
The survey results summary identifies other stand-out services at Rainbow, including; new and innovative techniques and equipment for minimally invasive neurosurgery for brain tumors; the highest designation of care of epilepsy patients; providing safer alternatives to pediatric blood transfusions; Children Who Witness Violence Program; mental health care for parents with babies in the NICU; and special consult services for every cancer patient.
