Resident Salary 2007 - 2008:
Residents are paid according to their level of training as follows:
PGY-1 $41,850.00
PGY-2 $43,851.00
PGY-3 $45,232.00
PGY-4 $46,770.00
Educational Allowance:
Each resident receives a monetary allowance to use for educational purposes. Including but not limited to purchase of textbooks, journal subscriptions, medical equipment, USMLE #3, computer, computer software, PDA software, and conference attendance. The amount of the allowance increases with the level of training:
PGY-1 $400.00
PGY-2 $600.00
PGY-3 $900.00
Each resident will receive a Palm Pilot or equivalent additional educational allowance if the resident already has a PDA.
Pediatric Boards:
Categorical and Medicine-Pediatric Residents will be reimbursed for first time test takers for the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) exam in the fall immediately following residency. The current value of this reimbursement is $1,410.00
Vacation:
Residents have four weeks of vacation per year split into 2 week blocks plus five days of over the winter holidays. Interns receive a fifth week of vacation at the end of intern year.
Case Affiliation:
All residents are automatically given affiliation with Case Western Reserve University. This includes access to gym facilities, libraries, and email. For more details please see the Case Affiliation FAQ.
Association of Resident of Fellows:
The mission of the Association of Residents and Fellows (ARF) is to represent and advocate the interests of all the residents and fellows at University Hospitals of Cleveland (UHC) as well as to positively promote a working environment favorable for optimal medical training and patient care. In recent years, ARF has been responsible for drastically upgrading the resident lounge and increasing resident salaries.
Fitness Center:
As part of the Case Affiliation, all residents have free access to Case’s gym and athletic facilities. The available facilities include a cardio training room, weight lifting room, swimming pool, racquet ball courts, squash courts, climbing wall, basketball courts, indoor track, and tennis courts. The Case gym is located across the street from Rainbow.
A private gym facility “ONE TO ONE Fitness Center” also located across the street from Rainbow encompasses all aspects of health enhancement. Discounted memberships are available to residents.
Parking:
Parking is available to all residents in a variety of structures and open lots. All are within easy walking distance to Rainbow. Cost for parking is approximately $43.00 per month and can be taken directly out of your paycheck.
Health Insurance:
Starting January 1, 2007 the medical plans in the UH Benefits Program will be offered through Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. The Traditional Plan provides you with three options to receive your medical care. In the Traditional Plan, you receive the highest level of coverage if you use a UH facility. You can also access care directly in the network or through any non-network provider you choose at reduced levels of coverage. The Consumer Choice Plan represents a promising new direction in our approach to making high quality medical coverage available to our employees. The Consumer Choice Plan provides a more individualized approach to managing your healthcare expenses through an employer-funded account, called the Consumer Choice Account, which can be used to pay eligible healthcare expenses. Health insurance is available to employees who are regularly scheduled to work at least 16 hours per week. Coverage is effective the first day of the month coinciding with or following your employment date.
Dental Insurance:
Dental coverage is available through CIGNA Dental for you and your family. Covered services can be obtained in or out of the network. The plan provides coverage for preventive, basic, and major restorative services. Your monthly contribution is payroll deducted on a pre-tax basis. Coverage is effective the first day of the month coinciding with or following your employment date.
Professional Liability Insurance:
Professional personnel are covered by the hospital at no cost.
403(b) Matched Retirement Savings Plan:All employees are eligible to contribute to the 403(b) Matched Retirement Savings Plan. Employees with one year of service, who have worked at least 1,000 hours, are eligible to receive a match. UHHS will match 50% of the first 6% of your contributions. Money the hospital contributes (matched contributions) is 100% vested after three years of service.
