At the UH Prentiss Pediatric Surgery Center, we are committed to making each child’s experience as smooth and comfortable as possible. Families are encouraged to communicate their ideas and suggestions on how to best comfort and care for the patient. Child Life is available in the preoperative area to help educate and prepare the patient for surgery. An information sheet with suggestions on how to prepare a child for surgery and an educational coloring book is provided on this site to help families prepare for surgery.
The anesthesia team will escort the patient into the procedure area where they will help them fall asleep either by having them breathe anesthesia gases through a mask or by injecting medicine through an IV. Family members will be directed back to the waiting area until the patient is transferred to the recovery room.
