The Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine is committed to leadership in two unique health care specialties for children: pediatric sports medicine and adolescent medicine.

Specialized Care for Young Athletes: Sports Medicine for Kids

Kids injured while playing sports are getting back on the field faster, and stronger, thanks to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital’s leadership role in pediatrics sports medicine.

Pediatrics sports medicine and pediatrics orthopaedics specialists work with many other medical experts, coaches, trainers and family doctors.

They diagnose, treat and help prevent sports injuries to keep young competitors in the game. Services include:

UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital has developed a national reputation for excellence in the field. There are only 120 fellowship trained pediatrics sports medicine doctors in the country. And two of them practice here.

Research is also an important part of the program. Several trials specific to pediatrics sports injuries and prevention are underway.

Equipped for the Unique Medical Needs of Adolescents

Adolescents have unique needs, both physical and psychosocial. Our Adolescent Medicine Program is focused on the needs of kids between the ages of 12 and 20.

Adolescent medicine specialists are specially trained to manage health problems affecting teenagers, including reproductive health and sexually transmitted diseases. Our experts manage the Teen Clinic at the Free Medical Clinic of Greater Cleveland and also care for students at Case Western Reserve University through the Student Health Center.

The Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine also offers students a unique opportunity in the field. One of the two accredited fellowship programs the division offers is in adolescent medicine – one of only a few programs nationwide.
