Specialty Overview

The Division of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at Rainbow Babies & Childrens Hospital provides state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients with all forms of congenital heart defects, in addition to pediatric patients with ailments that affect the lungs, esophagus, chest wall and diaphragm.

The Division provides comprehensive cardiac care to patients of all ages, from the newborn to the adult, and advocates complete neonatal correction of complex congenital heart defects whenever possible, including patients with tetralogy of Fallot, truncus arteriosus, atrioventricular septal detect (AV canal), transposition of the great vessels, and total anomalous pulmonary venous return.

For patients with a single ventricle, we are widely recognized for our leadership in staged palliation for univentricular hearts, such as for hypoplastic left heart syndrome, tricuspid atresia, and many others.

Antonias StoryA comprehensive program in heart and heart-lung transplantation is available for patients with end-stage heart disease, including postoperative support and rehabilitation. The Division also provides a support group, Rainbow Hearts, for parents of children with congenital heart disease who have had or will have surgery.
