Ophthalmology MIS Procedures

Strabismus (Misalignment of the eyes)

  • Horizontal and vertical muscle recessions or resections
  • Oblique muscle surgery (myectomy, spacer, tenotomy, transposition, etc)
  • Transposition procedures
  • Posterior fixation suturing
  • Adjustable muscle surgery
  • Restrictive (thyroid related, trauma related, etc) or paralytic (3rd, 4th, 6th cranial nerve palsies) muscle surgery
  • Release of extensive scar tissue with or without muscle detachment

Cataract (Hazy lens) (Traumatic, congenital, infantile, secondary, etc)

  • Cataract removal with or without intraocular lens (IOL) placement
  • Aspiration technique
  • Phacofragmentation with aspiration
  • Pars plana approach with or without vitrectomy
  • Intracapsular cataract removal
  • Traumatic cataract with removal of scar and secondary membraneous cataract
  • Secondary IOL insertion
  • Sutured IOL insertion
  • Exchange IOL

Posterior Segment (Structures behind the color portion of the eye)

  • Removal of vitreus, mechanical vitrectomy
  • Vitrectomy, pars plana approach

Retina

  • Destruction localized lesion of retina; cryotherapy (freezing technique), or Laser
  • Treatment of progressive retinopathy (i.e. retinopathy of prematurity); photocoagulation

Eyeball

  • Evisceration of ocular contents with or without implant
  • Enucleation of eye with or without implant
  • Insertion of secondary implant, muscles attached

Glaucoma (Eye pressure building up)

  • Goniotomy (direct visualization or via endoscopy)
  • Trabeculotomy (with trabeculotome or 360 degree microcatheter)
  • Trabeculectomy
  • Tube shunt implantation (Ahmed valve, etc)
  • Endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation (Endoscopic laser technique)
  • External laser technique

Lacrimal (Tear) System

  • Probing of nasolacrimal (tear) duct with or without irrigation
  • Insertion of tube stent (monocanalicular or bicanalicular Ritleng or Crawford stents)
  • Repair of canalicular (tear duct) laceration
  • Orbit (Eye socket)
  • Orbitotomy with or without removal (excisional or incisional biopsy) of lesion
  • Sub tenon’s injection

Eyelids

  • Excise chalazion (stye)
  • Repair blepharoptosis (Droopy lid)
  • Frontalis muscle technique with sling
  • Levator resection
  • Correction of lid retraction (Tight lid muscles)
  • Blepharoplasty (upper or lower lid)
  • Repair of lid laceration/wound
  • Excision of lid neoplasm/growth with or without repair / reconstruction
  • Repair of entropion
  • Tarsorraphy (suturing of lids together) temporary or permanent
