Services Provided Through the Division of Neonatology

Neonatology at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital includes a wide range of special services for infants with medical problems, including:

• The Quentin & Elisabeth Alexander Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, among the world’s newest and most advanced NICU facilities, treating some 1,200 children each year
• Maternal Fetal Medicine: The Division of Neonatology works closely with obstetrics and gynecology specialists at University Hospitals MacDonald Women’s Hospital – minimizing complications during high-risk pregnancy and standing by when newborn medical treatment is critically needed.
• Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), a life-saving technique for babies with underdeveloped lungs. Ours was the first neonatal ECMO Center in Northeast Ohio.
• The Transitional Care Center, for babies who no longer need intensive NICU care, but are not yet ready to go home.
