Congenital Malformation

Children born with abnormalities of the brain and spinal cord have congenital malformations.

Some more common problems that require neurosurgical intervention include

  • Hydrocephalus (excess cerebrospinal spinal fluid in the brain)
  • Dandy-Walker malformations
  • Spinal Bifida (inadequate closure of the spinal canal)
  • Craniosynostosis
  • Encephaloceles
  • Schizencephaly
  • Vein of Galen
  • Chiari Malformations
  • Tethered Cord
  • Syringomyelia
  • Vascular Malformations
  • Arachnoid Cyst

As neurosurgeons, we work closely with our colleagues in pediatric neurology, pediatric neuroradiology, pediatric plastic surgery, obstetrics, and neonatology to provide coordinated individualized state-of-the-art care for infants and children with congenital problems, and for their families.
