Working Together to Manage High-Risk Pregnancy
University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital’s Division of Neonatology plays a key role in the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at University Hospitals MacDonald Women’s Hospital.
Maternal fetal medicine is focused on providing care during high-risk pregnancy. A team of uniquely qualified specialists works to minimize complications arising from high-risk pregnancy and protect the health of both a mother and her baby.
The neonatology team is involved on many levels including:
- Standing by in the event advanced medical treatment is needed following a high-risk delivery
- If a baby’s condition worsens, UH MacDonald Women’s Hospital labor and delivery suite is just steps away from UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
- Providing education and orientation for families that are likely to require neonatology services after delivery. This helps alleviate anxiety. Parents discover the myriad capabilities of one of the world’s best neonatology services – and they learn how to care for their babies at home.
- Consulting with obstetrics specialists as decisions are being made to manage the health of the fetus during high-risk pregnancy
It is another example of the hospital-wide commitment to teamwork, highly-integrated care and cooperation between specialties. Combining resources and working together gives each family we serve the best outcomes.
