Rainbow Center for Children with Inherited Kidney Diseases provides diagnostic and treatment services for children with inherited kidney diseases, including:

  • Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD)
  • Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD)
  • Alport syndrome (hereditary nephritis)
  • Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus
  • Bartter syndrome
  • Gitelman syndrome
  • Other inherited kidney diseases

In addition to providing care for the childs kidney disease and related complications, patients and families are provided with up-to date information about their disease, opportunities for participation in ongoing research projects at Rainbow Babies and Childrens/University Hospitals as well as numerous research sites in the US and updates on any progress made in understanding the cause of the disease and any new treatments available. Recommendations for referrals to other specialists are made to primary care providers as needed to facilitate comprehensive treatment of the childs condition.

Genetic diagnosis, if indicated or requested, is coordinated through the Center for Human Genetics at University Hospitals.
