UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital Ranked Among Best Children’s Hospitals for 19th Straight Year

NICU Ranked in Top 5 in the Nation for Third Year in a Row by U.S. News & World Report

CLEVELAND, Ohio (June 3, 2010) – University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital (Rainbow) once again has ranked as one of the best children’s hospitals in the country. This year’s rankings mark nearly two decades of Rainbow being on this elite rankings list released annually by U.S. News & World Report.

For the third consecutive year, Rainbow ranked in the Top 5 for the care of newborns by placing #4 in this year’s survey. Rainbow also ranked among the top 30 children’s hospitals in the nation in seven out of ten medical specialties.

“We are pleased and proud to be once again one of the top children’s hospitals in the country,” said Dr. Michael Konstan, Chairman of Pediatrics at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. “These rankings once again confirm our mission to provide the highest quality of care to the children and families of Northeast Ohio and it validates the tremendous work of our dedicated, talented, and caring staff. It’s exciting to lead a hospital with a reputation as one of the best children’s hospitals in the United States.”

In addition to Rainbow ranking #4 in Neonatal care, Rainbow ranked in the following specialties:

  • Cancer (#26)
  • Diabetes & Endocrine Disorders (#13)
  • Kidney Disorders (#23)
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery (#17)
  • Orthopedics (#14)
  • Respiratory Disorders (#10)

The methodology of this year’s rankings no longer included overall hospital rankings. It ranked by specialty, weighing a three-part blend of reputation, outcome and care-related measures such as nursing care, advanced technology and credentialing.

A complete list of the children’s hospital rankings will be published in the August issue of U.S. News & World Report, which hits newsstands July 27th. The rankings are available online at www.usnews.com/childrenshospitals.
