The focus of our didactic teaching is to supplement the fellow's clinical experiences and individual learning strategy.
Neonatal Case Management - A completely fellow-driven experience, this conference occurs weekly and consists of presentation and discussion of recent cases from the NICU. In addition to participation by fellows and Neonatal faculty, Pediatric subspeciality and Surgical faculty are also invited to attend these sessions.
Neonatal Board Review Series - Organized by Dr. Richard Martin, these lectures are aimed towards preparing our fellows for the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine certifying examination. Lectures are held weekly from September through June.
Morbidity and Mortality Review - Attended by OB faculty members as well as pathologists (including an expert in placental pathology), the focus of this conference is to review deaths that have occurred in the NICU and Labor and Delivery Unit. It is held monthly and is organized by Dr. Mary Nock.
Neonatology Quality Improvement Issues - This is an interdisciplinary conference facilitated by Dr. Mary Nock It is held monthly and focuses on the progress reports from various quality improvement committees as well as discussion of implementation of quality improvement initiatives. Each fellow must be a member on at least one quality improvement committee during their fellowship.
Journal Club - Fellows and Neonatal faculty meet monthly to discuss a recently published article. Fellows are encouraged to select an article from within their area of research interests and prior to their discussion are aided by Dr. Anna Maria Hibbs, Dr. Christopher Wilson, or Dr. Michele Walsh in their analysis.
Outcomes - Held monthly, this conference consists of lectures and discussions by Dr. Maureen Hack, Dr. Dee Wilson-Costello, and Dr. Monika Bhola.
Maternal Fetal Medicine/Neonatology Conference -Topics for this meeting are taken from the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine certifying examination content specifications. An OB resident presents the maternal aspect of a problem and a Neonatology fellow presents fetal and neonatal effects and outcomes for the same problem.
Fetal Board - This joint conference occurs monthly. MFM faculty members present imaging and clinical information about women expecting babies with congenital malformations. The MFM, Palliative Care, Cardiology, Neurology, and Neonatology teams work together to prepare delivery plans for these patients.
Neonatology Basics Series - This conference is held weekly in July and August of each year and is organized by Dr. Mary Nock. The purpose is to introduce new fellows to basic concepts in Neonatology including neonatal x-ray interpretation, the basics of ventilation, premature formulas and breast milk additives, etc.
