Our world-renowned health care network is anchored by our flagship facility, University Hospitals Case Medical Center. Located in Cleveland’s historic University Circle, this 947-bed academic medical center and tertiary-care hospital is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of America's best hospitals in 13 medical and surgical specialties. It comprises three centers of excellence: University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, MacDonald Women’s Hospital, and Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital; and The Center for Clinical Research, the largest medical research center in Ohio. UH Case Medical Center is the primary teaching affiliate for Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, allowing for additional experiences in research and teaching.
UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital
UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is a dedicated pediatric hospital with experts who offer a depth and breadth of high quality care that is not available at any other institution in the region. The employees of UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital include more than 850 physicians, nurses, child life specialists, social workers, and other professionals who are devoted to pediatric medicine and surgery. This staff roster includes more nationally recognized pediatric specialists than any other hospital in Ohio. Our experts are regarded by pediatricians across the country as among the best in the nation – and in some specialties, the best in the world. UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital's 244-bed facility serves as both a primary care facility for children of the Cleveland metropolitan area and a principal pediatric referral center for Ohio and the region. Many of the infants, children and adolescents referred to UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital have complex medical and surgical problems that require hospitalization for diagnosis and treatment.
In all, about 10,000 newborns, infants, children and adolescents are admitted annually to UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Children are cared for in a facility especially designed for the unique care of children. Rainbow’s eight-story patient care tower, which opened in 1997, is one of the most advanced, family-centered pediatric hospital sites in the nation. Named the “Leonard and Joan Horvitz Tower,” the 190-bed “kid-friendly” facility combines 21st century medical technology with a warm, supportive environment conducive to healing. The hospital’s ambulatory clinic and children’s emergency care center serve more than 100,000 children each year. These facilities provide both primary and specialized ambulatory care.
Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center
The Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center provides care to over 71,000 veterans each year in northern Ohio, through two inpatient facilities, twelve community based outpatient clinics and three veteran centers. The medical center has been recognized for more programs of clinical excellence than any other VAMC: Open Heart Surgery, Care of the Seriously Mentally Ill, Geriatric Evaluation and Management, Substance Abuse Care, Spinal Cord Injury Care, Medical Care of the Homeless, and Domiciliary Care of the Homeless. Research programs are funded at more than $20 million annually.
