About Rainbow

Unlike a pediatric service in a general hospital, Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital houses an extensive array of diagnostic and therapeutic facilities. Rainbow also includes operating rooms for children, pediatric radiology and pathology divisions, and pediatric diagnostic and research laboratories.

Rainbow is a 224 bed major teaching facility affiliated with the Case Western Reserve University Schools of Medicine, Nursing and Dentistry. Rainbow is also a major center for research into the causes and cures of children's diseases. Rainbow's Department of Pediatrics continues to be one of the highest ranked Pediatric Departments in the country in terms of research funding. Currently, more than $26 million in annual research funding supports a variety of pediatric research projects.

Our 100-plus year history is filled with medical firsts and successes in the treatment of children's diseases and disorders.

To inaugurate our second century of service, Rainbow opened a new eight-story patient care tower in 1997. The Leonard and Joan Horvitz Tower offers the most advanced, family-centered pediatric care in the nation. The 190 bed facility, an extension of the existing hospital, combines 21st century medical technology with a warm, supportive environment conducive to healing. Here, patients and their families enjoy greater privacy and conveniences including rooms equipped with a full bathroom, sleeping couch and refrigerator. These amenities, designed to encourage parents to stay with their children and become actively involved in their care, enable families to maintain as normal a daily routine as possible. Diagnostic testing, physical therapy and other inpatient services are available at the bedside.
