Didactic Training

All fellows take a month long introductory course on clinical research and study design offered through the medical school during the first year of fellowship. On a weekly basis we discuss journal articles to foster evidence based practice and critical appraisal of the literature. We also discuss in-patients as a group to encourage continuity of care and also to learn from the interesting and sometimes challenging patients. Pathology conference is held on a monthly basis. Our fellows and faculty are also encouraged to attend Grand Rounds, Patient Management Conferences, and sessions with our adult gastrointestinal colleagues. In addition to local teaching, our fellows are required to attend the fellow’s conferences sponsored by NASPGHAN which occur on a yearly basis and are level specific. The conferences deal with a variety of teaching material from how to choose a mentor to providing a venue for research presentation and feedback.
